Oppo to Expand VOOC Flash Charging Tech to Cars, Public Space and Accessories Under Flash Initiative
Oppo has announced a new project namely the Flash Initiative to expand its proprietary VOOC flash charging technology to automobiles, public spaces, and charging accessories. During the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS) event earlier today, the Chinese tech giant announced a partnership with Anker, FAW-Volkswagen, and NXP Semiconductors to expand its charging solution across various sectors. Since its launch in 2014, Oppo’s VOOC technology has been introduced in over 30 smartphone models to deliver an ultra-fast charging experience.
The company in a statement stated that each partner company would work with proprietary technical designs developed by Oppo under the Flash Initiative. “Technology certification laboratory CTTL (China Telecommunication Technology Laboratory) will test and certify any partner products made with VOOC flash charging technology,” the company added. As one of China’s largest tech certification labs, the CTTL has also granted Oppo a five-star rating for its VOOC Flash Charging tech. Both Oppo and CTTL have further developed a technical paper on flash charging technology.
Meanwhile, Anker, which is known for its compact GaN charger, said that the company, in partnership with Oppo, would bring flash charging to millions of people. FAW-Volkswagen, the joint venture between FAW Group and Volkswagen Group, will incorporate Oppo’s proprietary tech into Volkswagen cars made in China, giving automobile drivers and passengers power on the go. Chip manufacturer NXP Semiconductors, on the other hand, will bring VOOC flash charging to smart and connected solutions designed for sectors including smart cities and industrial, automotive, mobile, and smart homes.
Currently, Oppo’s 50W Mini SuperVOOC charger which is 82.2mm long and 10.05mm thick, can charge smartphones, tablets and even laptops. The 65W AirVOOC wireless charger can fully power a 4,000mAh phone battery in 30 minutes, while the 125W flash charger can do the same in just 20 minutes, the company claims. Each VOOC-based charger claimed to use low voltage charging with a dual-cell structure. The temperature sensors in the charger automatically regulate voltage and dissipate heat.
